Second book in Brides of Lost Creek series
The Wedding Quilt Bride by Marta Perry is the second story in Brides of Lost Creek series. Rebecca Mast has returned home to Lost Creek with her six-year-old son, Elijah. Rebecca lost her husband, James six months ago and sold her farm to her brother-in-law, John. The down payment she received will finance her new home and the remodeling of the front room for her quilt shop. Rebecca hires her childhood friend, Daniel King to carry out her vision. Daniel is happy to have his friend back, but he notices that she is not the same. She is withdrawn, thin, pale and seems haunted. Daniel is hoping that over time Rebecca will trust him and confide in him. While working on the shop with Rebecca, Daniel begins to fall in love with his friend. But then Rebecca receives a letter that could derail her plans for the shop. Rebecca is determined to stand on her own two feet. Can Daniel get Rebecca to accept his help and that of her community? Will Rebecca be able to overcome the past?
The Wedding Quilt Bride is well-written and an engaging novel. I was drawn into the story and it held my attention. There are beautiful descriptions of quilts in the story. Ms. Perry brought the quilts alive with her words. The story is told from Rebecca and Daniel’s perspectives. While Rebecca is trying to overcome her past, Daniel is dealing with guilt. His brother, Aaron “jumped the fence” is Daniel feels responsible for him leaving the Amish. There are great characters in the story. They are warm and welcoming. Rebecca has a loving and supportive family. The Wedding Quilt Bride is a complex story with unexpected surprises. There are several themes in the story, but my favorite is everyone deserves a second chance. We are far from perfect, and we will inevitably make mistakes. We need to trust in God and let Him guide us. I like that the author portrays life realistically. Life is full of hills and valleys. There are good people and there are those who will try to take advantage of you. While The Wedding Quilt Bride is the second novel in Brides of Lost Creek series, it stands on its own (I look forward to reading the first book when I have an opportunity). The Wedding Quilt Bride is a heartwarming story that will hold you captive until you finish the last word.
