SUPERB!
Marvelous old supernatural tale, reminiscent of some superstitions of the ancient First Nations in North America and Canada, told in the exquisite vintage prose of the early 1900s
Eerie and Suspenseful
Read the abridged version as a child from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and was curious what the original was like. While the creature bears little resemblance to the actual indigenous myth, Blackwood does a splendid job of creating something equally terrifying. The tone of this story was so wonderfully creepy, really makes you wonder if you should ever respond to the Call of the Wild.
Magical
Really, I read this on a whim. It was fantastic! I felt the depth of the wooded wilderness, and the vulnerability of the characters, and the mysterious ness of the tale.
