Publisher Description

A New York Times bestseller: A graphic novel of war and its aftermath.

A powerful, compulsively page-turning, vivid, and moving tribute to the experience of war and PTSD, The White Donkey tells the story of Abe, a young Marine recruit who experiences the ugly, pedestrian, and often meaningless side of military service in rural Iraq. He enlists in hopes of finding that missing something in his life but comes to find out that it's not quite what he expected.

Abe gets more than he bargained for when his journey takes him to the middle east in war-torn Iraq. This is a story about a Marine, written and illustrated by a Marine, and is the first graphic novel about the war in Iraq from a veteran. The White Donkey explores the experience of being a Marine, as well as the challenges that veterans face upon their return home, and its raw power will leave you in awe.

    Made me tear up

As a fellow Marine I would like to personally say this book really hits home. I’ve seen some things during my time in. When Garcia went flying out of the truck and the after math that followed. I stood shocked and I started to think about everything. Tomorrow is Memorial Day
I will remember I will always remember

Incredibly relatable to the modern active duty

I’ve never related to a book so much that it felt like I was reliving memories

    Moving

I’m AD/AF, picked up interest in the comic strip from my Marine brother-in-law, loved from that day since! Been really looking forward to reading this, and am glad I did! I’ve been lucky in my 6 deployments, to not be on the ground for any real engagements, but I have nothing but respect for all those on the ground every day and as always want to thank those who do. After I finished reading this it made me really think about a number of things from why I joined to why I’m still in. I feel that everyone who serves, needs to reflect at times when needed to keep focus and clear the head, and this book is another in a few instances that I’ve reflect and I say thank you for that!
