Publisher Description
Corporate slave Arihito Atobe’s death in a freak bus accident marks the beginning of his new life as a kind of adventurer called a Seeker. Reborn into a fantasy world, he settles into a previously unknown job class called “rearguard,” capable of providing his (all-female) party with critical attack, defense, and recovery support. And it comes with an added bonus: Simply being at the back of the party line increases his companions’ fondness for him! Freed from the shackles of corporate life, Arihito is eager to start fresh as a newly minted Seeker!
Customer Reviews
Another fun read.
As someone who loves reading Isekai, this book was fun from the start and hard to put down.
One of my favorite isekai, despite flaws
While some annoyingly classic isekai tropes are present (game mechanics, a harem with some slightly creepy underpinnings), causing me to downrate a bit, the characters and worldbuilding are very well done. It’s also not a classic “dropped into a known gameworld” story, though the world clearly feels like a game setting. Rather than the typical fantasy-magic Europe, though, the world is quite distinct and has a lot of underlying mysteries and novel social complexities. The series had a 4-year publication hiatus in Japan after volume 8 (fortunately a good pause point), but has just (Sept 2025) announced volume 9 in Japan, along with an anime adaption, and I’m definitely looking forward to both.
It’s In the details
Love the detail in explaining what’s happening. Gave a better impression on actions & situations. But could’ve used more details on how the characters looked.
THE MANGA is completely different so if you’ve read it 1st then you’ll still want to read the light novel. Like everything was changed and different interactions happened. Only the start until he gets his job is the same.
Overall great start
Onto volume 2!
