William MacLeod Raine, was an American novelist. He worked as a reporter and editorial writer for local newspapers. He was best known for his fictional adventure stories about the American Old West. Twenty of his novels have been screened. Despite his prolificacy, he was a careful, conscientious worker, he was aimed at accurate details, and considered himself a craftsman rather than an artist.

The plot of the book set in the great northwest, Alaska territory in the early 1900's, as it was written in this same time period the story comes across as very realistic. .
