In the courtroom, they’re rivals. In the bedroom, they’re . . . divorced. But could the road trip from hell lead to a second chance at love?

“I love Kate Meader’s books!”—Kelly Jamieson

Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.

The woman I used to call . . . wife.

And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.

It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammy, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.

A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”

Life Is A Journey

Aubrey Gates and Grant Lincoln are two of the hottest divorce attorneys in Chicago. After meeting in law school, Grant KNEW Aubrey was “the one”. They are the IT couple, until they aren’t. In the first two novels, we are introduced to Grant and Aubrey, but are never given any clues as to why their marriage ended. Their friends and fellow attorneys don’t even know the real story, just that they completely miserable without each other.

Even though they can hardly stand to be around the other, not out of hate or dislike, Aubrey approaches Grant with a favor. Aubrey is supposed to attend her grandma’s 90th birthday, but hasn’t told the family matriarch about their divorce. So she enlists Grant’s help in deceiving granny. But Grant’s feeling are real and he’s going to use their time together to prove to Aubrey they are still good together.

Kate Meader is masterful in bringing Grant and Aubrey’s story to life. Life is not easy and neither is marriage. It’s a lot of work! Grant loved Aubrey so deeply, that he let her go. Was it a mistake? Probably. Aubrey was so afraid of showing emotion and talking through the “hard parts”, that she gave up without a fight. When “trapped” in a car heading across the country, thoughts and feelings surface. Will they be able to find themselves again? I laughed, cried, wanted to strangle Aubrey...this novel had all the feels! I also LOVED their nicknames. It made them seem more real. I received a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Great read

Loved this book, I could not put it down. Kate Meader didn’t disappoint. I loved the story because it is so easy to believe that it would happen. Aubrey and Grant were meant for each other in opposites way and they had a perfect relationship but life happens and everything falls apart. You can see the hurt that they are going though but of course they are each blaming their self and not telling the other one what they are really thinking and feeling. I loved that they finally were honest with each other towards the end and started to work things else. I am looking forward to finding other great reads from Kate Meader.

A second chance at love

Aubrey and Grant were married for seven years, the last two were extremely difficult. Now they are divorced and both of them are regretting it. Both are divorce lawyers and often are in opposite sides in the courtroom. When Aubrey miscarried, she lost it and withdrew from Grant. Not knowing how to reach Aubrey, he also withdrew and agreed to the divorce. Two years later and she’s all he can think about. Now he has an opportunity, Drive her from Chicago to her family home in Boston for Thanksgiving. Oh did I mention that Aubrey is afraid to fly, so that’s where I come in to save the day and try to get her back.

Aubrey was brought up in a wealthy life style, and a dysfunctional family. A father that constantly cheated on her mother, and a mother that was cold and distant, raised her to be independent. Instead of working in the family business, she stayed in Chicago after graduating from Northwestern

Grant wants to be there for Aubrey when she visits her parents. They are currently going thru a divorce but neither one wants to move out, making this a category five visit. Knowing this, makes Grant extremely happy he will be there to support Aubrey. Hoping that on their drive they can talk and hopefully start to mend the hurt they went thru.

I love everything Kate Meader writes.. it was a pleasure meeting her at the Romance Writers Conventions in Las Vegas a few years ago.
I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
