A MASKED MAN . . .
Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles-protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.
A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . .
Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society-flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons-Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar-and his lips so tempting.
A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY
During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hoyt's fourth Maiden Lane Georgian-era romance (after Scandalous Desires) is an expert blend of scintillating romance and mystery. The masked Ghost of St. Giles rescues orphaned children from the streets of one of London's less than savory neighborhoods. Widowed baroness Isabel Beckinhall rescues the unconscious "ghost" after finding him injured in the street; before she can ascertain his identity, he awakens and begs her to leave his mask in place. Little does she know he is Winter Makepeace, manager of a local orphanage, whom Isabel finds "dour" as she tutors him in charming potential donors. Neither anticipates the passion blossoming between them, a passion that will likely end in heartbreak in their class-conscious society. Suspense adds intensity as "lassie snatchers" kidnap orphans before the Ghost can save them, and the romance between the beautiful and quick-witted Isabel and the masked champion of the downtrodden propels this novel to the top of its genre.

Thief of Shadows
Enjoyable read!! It flowed and the plot was interesting. Read it in one day!!
Something s missing
Pretty good romance, and I liked the save the children plot but there is something stilted about the characters and the writing the characters don’t feel real to me
The sexiest thing I’ve ever read
My god. I’d read the 2nd half of the Maiden Lane series before coming back to the first few books, and I thought I knew what a sexy book was. Nope. Not even close. Hoyt has created one of the most sensual books I’ve ever read, with a deliciously sexy dynamic between the two leads. The ending makes my heart swell with joy every time - it’s cinematic in the best ways. Seriously an incredible book.
