Publisher Description
"A minor classic in its laconic, spare, compelling evocation by a participant of the shifting moods and maneuvers of the most dangerous moment in human history." —Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.
During the thirteen days in October 1962 when the United States confronted the Soviet Union over its installation of missiles in Cuba, few people shared the behind-the-scenes story as it is told here by the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy. In this unique account, he describes each of the participants during the sometimes hour-to-hour negotiations, with particular attention to the actions and views of his brother, President John F. Kennedy. In a new foreword, the distinguished historian and Kennedy adviser Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., discusses the book's enduring importance and the significance of new information about the crisis that has come to light, especially from the Soviet Union.

Thirteen Days
Written by Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Sr., Thirteen Days is a powerful memoir detailing the inside perspective of the infamous Cuban Missile Crisis, including how his beloved brother, President John F. Kennedy, handled the situation.
Laced with politics, firsthand insight, and Sen. Kennedy's signature eloquence that never fails to bring readers to tears, Thirteen Days is a masterful piece of literature. It is exciting, inspiring, and philosophical. It is written so beautifully and compellingly that it makes the reader feel as though they are in the meetings with Ex Comm. Sen. Kennedy composed a gorgeous tribute to his brother and best friend, President John F. Kennedy, as the book is drenched with heartfelt reminiscences and anecdotes of the slain yet undyingly courageous President. This memoir stands as evidence of the immortal profiles in courage of two brave brothers and their journey in shaping the government and democracy of the United States.
Overall, Thirteen Days is a beautiful and powerful book that I would highly recommend. Everyone (especially Americans) should read this book at least once before they die.
