Book eight in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling Rose Gardner Mystery series.
Rose Gardner has survived plenty of close scrapes in the past, but her latest bit of trouble has landed her in the Fenton County holding cell on trumped up charges. The most powerful man in southern Arkansas, J.R. Simmons, is determined to put her behind bars for good and destroy everything she holds dear, including her boyfriend, Mason, and her friend Skeeter, reigning king of the Fenton County crime world. In a stunning betrayal, it seems as if J.R.’s son, Rose’s ex-boyfriend, might have turned tail and joined his father.
But Rose doesn’t have to face this fight alone. Her tight-knit group of friends is dedicated to helping her figure out—and foil—J.R.’s plan for ruining her, Mason, and Skeeter. But even with their support and the use of her special power, Rose is at a disadvantage. J.R. is a criminal mastermind who has been using his money, power, and web of influence to hide his conspiracies for years. How can she hope to find solid evidence implicating someone who’s mastered the art of not getting caught?
Time is running out, and soon Rose realizes that reassuming her role of the Lady in Black might be her only chance at ferreting out the evidence that will save them all. In so doing, she will risk not only her life, but the possibility that her secret identity will be unveiled to all.
Rose at her best
The story picks up maybe an hour or two after Thirty-Four ends. The story goes full throttle from the beginning to end. There is rarely a dull moment, and is full of action and mystery. DGS mixes well done humor just in the exact right moments that makes the Rose Gardner Mysteries a step above the rest. Thirty-Five is addicting and will keep you reading up all night.
There are so many parts to this story that I loved. Rose coming into her own is my favorite part of this story. She has evolved so much throughout that series. She once was so naïve, innocent, and scared. She’s making people see her for the powerful person she has become. She’s brave and shows such courage. She has a huge capacity to love even though she was show so little as a child. She would do anything for the people she loves.
I think this book caused some of the most emotion I’ve felt in this series yet. I will be thinking about this book and series until Thirty-Six comes out. This book leaves you with a huge hangover. Well done DGS.
I finished it last night at 12 and it Let me hanging! Denise I really love you and I just wonder what you will do next! I can't believe in ended that way, I kind of predicted it but I'm still surprised. Rose is definitely a different woman and I hope Joe enters to the scene now. I'm team Joe I can't help it, you got to stick to your first love.
