First love. Second chance?

As the daughter of a hoarder, Phoenix Fuller had a tough childhood. So when the handsome, popular Riley Stinson became her boyfriend in high school, she finally felt as though she had something to be proud of. Phoenix was desperate not to lose him—especially once she found out she was pregnant. Yes, she might have acted a bit obsessive when he broke up with her. But she did not run down the girl he started dating next.

Unfortunately, there was no way to prove her innocence. Now, after serving her time in prison, Phoenix has been released. All she wants to do is return to Whiskey Creek and get to know her son. But Jacob's father isn't exactly welcoming.

Riley doesn't trust Phoenix, doesn't want her in Jacob's life. He is, however, ready to find someone to love. And he wants a good mother for his son. He has no idea that he's about to find both!

What's not to love about Second Chances

I think this was one of my most anticipated books to read in a while, I have been waiting to hear Phoenix and Riley's story since the beginning of this series. Brenda did not disappoint, she knows how to grab the reader and make them anticipate what is going to come to all of her characters.

Phoenix and Riley definitely deserved there second chance, thanks for giving to them Brenda.

This Heart of Mine by Brenda Novak

This Heart of Mine by Brenda Novak

Phoenix Fuller went to prison at the age of 17. Can you imagine getting out almost 20 years later and only just starting your life? No real resources, no friends after so long away, no life skills in the real world. Phoenix is extreme in telling people she is fine. She can do it herself. She doesn't want to impose. I want to yell at her to accept some help. Some friendship. But she was hurt at a young age by Riley, her brothers and her mother. She has learned well to be independent and not care too deeply for others or she'll get hurt when they leave too.
Resilience is probably the best word to describe Phoenix.

Riley Stinson is confused. He loved Phoenix in the past. He doesn't know what he feels now that she's back in town, but he does know he can't let her be bullied.

This is an emotion packed contemporary romance that touches so many heartstrings. Be prepared to laugh, cry, get mad and fall in love.

"He sighed. She didn't trust him, and he couldn't blame her. He couldn't even think of anything to say that might change her mind, because he couldn't make any promises about the future. He only knew that he liked what he'd seen of her so far. Maybe she viewed herself as a broke ex-con hated by the whole community. But he saw a beautiful woman, someone with grit, honesty, humility, dedication to those she cared about and the courage to risk almost anything to be part of their lives. So why shouldn't he care about her?"Excerpt from This Heart of Mine by Brenda Novak.

The Best of Whiskey Creek

After spending sixteen years in prison for a crime she did not commit, Phoenix has returned home to Whiskey Creek to reconnect with her son, Jacob. Her ex teenage boyfriend, Riley has done a wonderful job on raising their son. As Phoenix gets to know her son better, Riley is also realizing why he loved Phoenix years ago. Phoenix is very leery of these advances by Riley, as she also is fighting these same feelings.

This is the eighth book in the series of Whiskey Creek, but can be read as a stand alone. We have always heard bits and pieces of Phoenix in previous books, but always for the bad. In this book, Phoenix has to redeem herself to everyone.

I could not put this book down, once again Brenda has written a wonderful story of likeable, believable characters that you can relate to. I highly recommend this book, along with the rest of the Whiskey Creek books.
