Publisher Description
Jane Austen’s Emma meets The Rosie Project in this quirky, irresistible, romantic comedy from Sarah Strohmeyer, the author of Smart Girls Get What They Want.
Addie Emerson doesn’t believe in love. Not for herself anyway. With one year left of high school, she’s more interested in snagging a full scholarship to Harvard than a full-time boyfriend.
That doesn’t mean she’s oblivious to the ways of the heart. Or, rather, the head. Because after months of research, Addie has discovered how to make anyone fall in love. All you need is the secret formula.
But will her discovery be enough to win the coveted Athenian Award and all its perks? (See above, full scholarship to Harvard.) Or will she be undone by Dexter, her backstabbing lab partner, who is determined to deep-six her experiments at their exclusive private school?
Those are the least of her problems now that she’s survived a death-defying flight with a mysterious, dark-haired boy, who has delicious chocolate-brown eyes and a few secrets of his own.
With an experiment to mastermind, an infatuated exchange student on her hands, and at least one great white shark (more on that later), can Addie’s prefrontal cortex outwit her heart? Or will she have to give in to her amygdala and find out, once and for all, if this thing called love is more than just her brain on drugs?
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Addie and Kris meet in a high-stress situation: their plane seems like it's about to crash. Scientifically minded Addie sees the world through an extremely rational lens think Temperance Brennan on Bones even offering to kiss Kris as the plane flounders as a "medical intervention" (he's about to pass out from hyperventilation). Though Addie considers herself immune to romance, she's also working to prove a theory that any two people can fall in love if they undergo a trauma together. Addie, meanwhile, is so socially na ve that she doesn't realize she's experienced this exact thing with Kris. Strohmeyer (The Secrets of Lily Graves) has a great handle on Addie's cerebral perspective, which is engaging and funny, along with her development of Kris as a repentant bad boy who likes Addie despite what turns out to be a complicated past between them. Addie's social quirkiness is endearing, as is her friends' protective attitude and behavior toward her. Readers will follow along gladly to see whether Addie allows a little love into her life alongside her intellectual pursuits in this entertaining romance for geek lovers. Ages 13 up.
Customer Reviews
Hilarious & adorable!
THIS IS MY BRAIN ON BOYS by Sarah Strohmeyer is a hilarious and completely unique look at romance between a socially awkward science student and her unlikely match.
This book is quite different from others in the YA romance genre--kudos for an original storyline. Strohmeyer's characterizations were spot on. Although the plot was slightly predictable and wrapped up a little too neatly, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely worth a read!
