Thomas Creekmore

This short-read about Thomas Creekmore, begins with a story, loosely-based on facts, about a young Thomas growing up during the Great Depression and winning the first barefoot contest given by Miss Lucy Mason Holt, a well-known and respected educator in Norfolk, Virginia.  From having this experience, Thomas learned to succeed in life, despite the obstacles, and to become a radio operator for the B-17s during World War II and helped in a little-known rescue mission to fly out more than 6,000 American and British POWs.  Thomas is a hero, like many others, who served during World War II.
