Thou Art The Man

Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) was an American author, poet, editor, and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre. Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story, and is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre.

“Thou Art the Man” is a brilliant brief story by Edgar Allan Poe which was considered as his first experience in detective fiction genre. The main figure of the story is a man who is mistakenly accused of murdering his own uncle Barnabas Shuttleworthy, whose corpse is cryptically missing. An unnamed narrator finds the body and suspects the best friend of it Charles Goodfellow, and sets up an elaborate plot to expose him. But suddenly the corpse comes back to life and points to the best friend with only one phrase “Thou art of the man!” Would you like to know the end? Who was the murderer?
