Ember Craven is a young girl raised by a single mother in a rough neighborhood in New York. To help make ends meet, she becomes entangled with a local gang, using her fists as the gang's collector and her MMA training to participate in illegal fight rings, to pay the bills.
When tragedy strikes, Ember's world is turned upside down. She leaves behind the gang and fight cages for a life of wealth and luxury with her aunt and uncle in a small town in Canada. While grieving, Ember tries to change her life around and become a regular teenager in the sleepy town of Whitsborough. She experiences the ups and downs of being the new kid at school and makes friends that will last a lifetime.
Only fate has other plans, and just when she thinks her life is perfect, the rug is pulled out from under her. Both worlds collide and Ember finds out that Whitsborough isn't as pristine as it seems and her past is about to make an appearance in a devastating way.

That ending is stunning!
I’m a big fan of Ms. Rene’s, I just love her books.
When I found out she was releasing a new book I knew I had to read it.
I didn’t read the blurb or even know what the book was about.
So I was surprised when I found the characters to be sixteen.
Didn’t know if I would connect with these young teens.
While I was reading I found it hard to believe that Ember was just sixteen.
Her actions and presentation is not that of a sixteen year old.
The characters seemed more like college kids.
And the parents interactions and dialogue with their kids wasn’t what I expected either.
They were talked to and treated like they were all over eighteen or twenty one.
The story is fast paced, lots of drama that most teenagers go through and some that are more sophisticated.
I really Ember. She tough and resilient. Loves wholeheartedly and is extremely loyal.
She’s witty and very smart.
But she’s also no one’s pushover and gives as good as she gets and than some.
Vin has a bit of a rocky childhood. His mom absolutely adores him.
It’s his dad that has broken his spirit. I was heartbroken for him.
I liked all the secondary characters as well.
They are either a great group of friends or the haters and bullies.
But they all play a role in the story.
I loved the mystery going on. It gave a dark vibe the kept things exciting and captivating.
Lots of action and suspense goes on towards the end that had me in the edge of my seat.
And that ended left me stunned and speechless.
Yes I will most definitely be reading the next book!
