Publisher Description
‘In no way is this book intended as nostalgia. Neither is it a full account of a full ten
years. How could it be? It is the fulfilment of a promise made to some young
Argentinians I met, backstage at a music festival in Buenos Aires, in late 2016.
They begged me to tell them any stories I had of
the 1970s, a decade stolen from them by a brutal
regime. I fell to telling them anecdotes of my travels.
My remit was then, to write them all down in
conversational style, as if I was sitting across the
very same table, recounting my stories.
As best I could, I have fulfilled that promise. In the writing, I learnt a lot. For me, this book reveals the freedoms we have lost in such a short time, and the changes that mass tourism has wrought.
Above all, it turns out to be a celebration of human kindness.’
