Pointless
I'm beginning to realize jack McDevitt enjoys leaving his readers with unsatisfying conclusions to his books. This story is no exception. No lessons were learned, no progress was made. Time was expended. Nothing more.
Terribly boring
Not really a science fiction story at all. Just local politics in North Dakota. As you can imagine, that makes for a very boring read. So much potential, but too much focus on the locals back on planet earth.
