Publisher Description

“America … had been close to my heart for a long time.” –Hergé

Tintin's reputation as a reporter reaches across the Atlantic ocean. So, when he arrives in Chicago during the Prohibition era, the local gangsters and criminals prepare an unfriendly welcome. Tintin will have to use all of his courage and intelligence to survive! In this story, Hergé wanted to show the flaws of western capitalism, but he deviated from his initial plan by taking interest in the lives of Native Americans, who he had encountered only through books, early Western movies and, primarily, his time as a boy scout.

Tintin, perhaps one of the most famous cartoon heroes of all time, is as much a child of the 20th century as his creator, Georges Remi—aka Hergé (1907-1983). Tintin's adventures, marked by his inquisitiveness, sense of mystery and witty humour, are deeply rooted in the events of that tumultuous era.

Featuring an official new English translation.

    Herge’s progression

Having grown up with these books, it is a pleasure to re-read them through the prism of time. You can see Herge’s progression of thought. “Tintin in the land of the Soviets” and “Tintin in the Congo” are more bigoted and racists that “Tintin in America”. These are the products of the 1930’s and need to be read in that context. These are not books for children.

    Previous issue resolved! (Updated)

Buying this book from the English list will actually get you "The Cigars of the Pharaoh" in German!!! Please wait for them to fix this before purchasing!
UPDATE: In their attempt to fix this, the French version now shows up on the English list, which still leaves the English version inaccessible!
FURTHER UPDATE: The problem I reported has been resolved. Everything looks great. So great to have these in the iBooks store!
