A Comprehensive Book Guide of To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird, a book written by Harper Lee, is a novel about a girl nicknamed ‘Scout’ Finch, her family, and their life in a small, rural town of Maycomb in Alabama, where racism and segregation are at large. Lee’s work is famous all around the world, among both young and older readers; the novel’s storyline is compelling as it talks about the never-ending tale of prejudice and hatred in the human world.
The novel’s plot is set in a small town, where a group of children are doing something—which is not connected to the main plot; a man called Boo Radley has disappeared. Besides dealing with Radley’s disappearance, there is a big case in town; apparently, a man named Tom Robinson has raped a ‘white’ woman, which deserves a harsh punishment by those who impose law and order in the small community.
But the most important thing about this novel is that the author in it illustrates real problems of racism and how people tend to believe the rumors while acting solely on their own hatred and misjudgment, rather than trying to observe everything from a neutral point of view. The accused man, who is also African-American, is the key character of the novel, as well as his presumable guilt just because he is not a part of the ‘white’ majority.
As a very interesting literature containing important messages, the book is definitely worth reading more than once.
