Conscience Overload
This is a very sweet story but definitely not Carol Arens’ best effort.
It is a rare historical romance that does not include the inner struggle by both the hero and heroine with one’s conscience. Should they or shouldn’t they. To read about that struggle a few times throughout the book is expected and to some extend appreciate it. But this book discusses the same struggles over and over and over and over and over again. Honestly, I wanted to shoot the hero and put him out of his misery about halfway through the book.
I survived the story by skipping over these sections at the start of the struggle until I found the next paragraph where conversation began once more. Bottom line, there just wasn’t enough storyline to fill the volume the author wanted to achieve.
