The sympathetic portrayal of many of the characters opposed to America adds depth.

Excellent storyline. A bit wordy - could have been told with less words. Getting closer to the original Clancy.

First half of novel I thought I was reading a textbook on Asian history. Thankfully it finally developed into a story with characters and intrigue. I almost gave up, but glad I stuck with it.
