A young boy with feminine qualities tries to please his father with more manly behavior. His efforts lead to failure and embarrassment, and an unexpected new bond between father and son. We receive this story from the son at a mature age. He looks back on his childhood trying to determine how this mortifying incident shaped his character, how his sexual identity might have been different if his environment had been different.
