Torquemada and the Spanish Inquisition

In his celebrated history, Torquemada and the Spanish Inquisition, Rafael Sabatini provides stunning detail about the Catholic Church's Inquisition (which started in the 12th Century and was not singularly attributable to Spain). 


His account is cutting and raw but eminently factual. 


Torquemada learned to use his evil genius at an early age to use the power of the Catholic Church and the ignorance of the populous for his personal gain. 


Indeed he designed the foundational elements for how the Spanish Inquisition could exterminate anyone at will—yet the Church could never be held accountable because culpability was always transferred to the secular authorities carrying out his heinous crimes against humanity—(a subtle but important detail the Nazis overlooked when implementing their Final Solution).  Thus allowing the Spanish Inquisition to endure for over 300 years all the in the name of God.



RAFAEL SABATINI (1875–1950) was an Italian-English writer best known for his worldwide bestsellers: The Sea Hawk, Scaramouche, Captain Blood, and Bellarion the Fortunate. Remarkably, Sabatini produced some thirty-one novels, eight short story collections, six non-fiction books, and several plays.
