Trail of Thread

Step into 1854 and experience the raw, unforgettable journey across the American frontier through the eyes of a woman living it.

Trail of Thread brings history to life through the moving letters of Deborah Pieratt as she travels by wagon train from Kentucky to the untamed territory of Kansas. Balancing the daily struggles of trail life—cooking over open campfires, camping under open skies, and finding solace in quilting—Deborah captures both the humor and despair of the pioneer spirit. But beneath the rhythm of the road lies a dangerous political undercurrent. As a Southern family traveling without enslaved people, the Pieratts face suspicious questions from fellow emigrants: where will their loyalties lie in the bitter fight over Bleeding Kansas?

Based on author Linda K. Hubalek's true family history, this captivating fictional series debut blends rich historical detail with human heart, including references to twelve traditional quilt patterns woven into the story.
