Train To Pakistan

''Train to Pakistan'' explores how mass political upheaval shatters a peaceful border village where Sikhs and Muslims have lived together for generations.

A local money-lender is murdered, and suspicion falls on Juggut Singh (Jugga), a local criminal who loves a Muslim girl named Nuran. A train arrives filled with the dead bodies of refugees, shattering the village's communal harmony and inciting religious hatred. As external forces and local paranoia push the community toward violence against evacuating Muslims, Jugga makes a courageous, self-sacrificing choice to save the train.

The novel brilliantly humanizes the tragedy and shows how ordinary people, decent by nature, get swept into collective madness and hatred, but ultimately transcend religious divides through personal bonds.
