Always, but as we share no common mode of communication, our understanding of their world, their cultures, is limited to what we can garner by spying. Like children, with noses pressed against the glass of a pet store display, we are no closer to knowing, or sharing the inner circle of another species than when our distant ancestors drew images of them on cave walls. We are - have always been - outsiders.
What would it be like to find yourself occupying the forms of different animals, while retaining your own, human mind - less the memories of that life?
