Treat Her Right

If the word “big” was used one more time...

Zach is a widower who lives alone with his daughter Dani, an adorable tomboy. He has started thinking about dating again, or what he calls “bride hunting” for a suitable mother for Dani. He is looking for a feminine, delicate, soft spoken homemaker to teach Dani about the art of being a woman since she has many male role models, but no woman in her life. However, this plan is foiled when Wynn moves in next door. Wynn is tall, fit, and sees herself as one of the guys. She is forward, outspoken, and a little outrageous, all things that grate on Zach, even more since he is highly attracted to her. And he really doesn’t want to be.

This is one of my least favorite plot devices used in romance novels. Zach wants Wynn, so he treats her horribly and while she doesn’t exactly lie back and take it, she falls in love with him anyway. He constantly describe her as big and large. Everyone else describes her as beautiful, so she sounds like your average model, tall and thin, but to Zach she is big, has large wrists, a big butt, manly, etc. It’s so distracting. Even when he admits he is in love with her, he tells her they are going to need a bigger bed after he looks down and the long woman under him.

I liked Wynn. Although she gave Zach way too much leeway, she is confident and not afraid to go after what she wants, and pretty brazenly. I really enjoyed Josh. He is described as a ladies man, however, he is the one who treats Wynn like a desirable woman that is good for Dani and Zach.

Overall, this book is alright. It was readable and I didn’t struggle through it, but I will never read it again.
