Collars and Cuffs: Book Two
Christmas is a time for goodwill to all, but Collars and Cuffs co-owner Thomas Williams receives an unexpected gift that chills him to the bone. A Dom from another Manchester club asks Thomas for his help rescuing an abused submissive, Peter Nicholson. Thomas takes in the young man as a favor to a friend, offering space and time to heal, but he makes it clear he’s never had a sub and doesn’t want one.
Peter finds Thomas’s home calm and peaceful, but his past has left him unwilling to trust another Dom. When Thomas doesn’t behave as Peter expects, Peter’s nightmares begin to fade, and he decides he’d like to learn more about D/s life. A well-known trainer of submissives, Thomas begins to teach Peter, but as the new submissive opens up to him, Thomas finds he cares more for Peter than he should. Just as he decides it’s time to find a permanent Dom for Peter, they discover Peter’s tormentor is still very much a threat. With their lives in danger, Thomas can’t deny his feelings for Peter any longer. The question now becomes, can Peter make it out of the lions’ den alive, so that Thomas can tell his boy that he loves him?

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
The cover for the second book in the series is just as bland as the first. The models' composition, color choices, and fonts used are very plain and not eye-catching. If it were not for the fact that I agreed to read the series in preparation for the series finale, I would have overlooked this book altogether. Synopsis is good.
Looking Deeper:
Third-person POV.
Peter is rescued from an extremely abusive man that calls himself a "Master"... he's cruel, violent, and commits unspeakable, horrendous acts of physical, mental, and sexual violence on his submissives (slaves). Thomas is the recipient of this shattered young man, 30 years his junior, in the hopes that Thomas can help to heal and train him to be a true sub in a REAL D/s lifestyle.
Peter's story will break your heart. His journey will tear you apart. This is NOT an easy, light read. It contains triggers of MANY sorts. BUT, Peter's transformation is beautiful and brave. The SLOW development of a relationship between Peter and Thomas is aided primarily by Leo and Alex (see book 1). Other club members are featured with minor parts, and a scant few other characters were presented. I had a few minor issues with the way the major conflict was resolved, but as a work of fiction, I understand that sometimes things will not always be handled in a way that I would expect them to be. The plot was good, but again, the subject matter was much heavier. Even still, it flowed well. Dialogue is mostly believable, cast interaction as well. There was very little predictability. The conclusion is solid enough, providing an HEA for our men, but there's enough cracks and gaps to allow future storylines to develop.
Overall, my heart broke and soared for Peter and urge people to give his story of pain and survival a chance.
