Maria has been raising her son on her own since her boyfriend was killed in a drive-by shooting. She's been doing her best to get by but when the gang starts really pushing her to give back the money Antonio stole, Gabriel reveals that he's back in town. Before Antonio died, he made Gabriel promise that he would marry Maria if anything were to happen to him. Now that he's gone legit, Gabriel is back to make good on his promise and to keep Maria and her son safe from the gang life.
This book was fast-paced and full of suspense. Every time I thought I knew where the story would go, it go somewhere completely different. This series really has made me suspend my preconceived notions on what arranged marriage is and how each person approaches it.
