Publisher Description
She just needs her car to start. That's all.
It's 1999. Cell phones are rare. Getting stranded isn't an emergency—it's just a risk you take to function.
She just needs her car to start. That's all.
But in Try Again Emily, nothing is ever that simple.
Every morning, Emily Harper walks out to the same car. Same key. Same prayer. A white 1992 Hyundai Excel that cranks, sputters, and refuses to start—over and over. But it's not just the car that's unreliable. It's the men who offer to help.
Some are kind. Some are careless.
And some know exactly what they're doing.
As breakdowns become routine and "accidents" pile up, Emily begins to rely more and more on the men in her life to get under the hood and make things right. Her persistence and determination seem to pay off . . . . . .
Told with repetition, dread, and rising discomfort, Try Again Emily makes the reader feel the exhaustion right alongside her. This is psychological suspense built not just to disturb—but to wear you down.
A story of grit, gasoline, and the quiet evil hiding in plain sight.
Customer Reviews
Pretty good overall
I mostly found this story to be very good. It’s very well worded and paints a clear picture of what’s going on as you read. Where it fell short for me was the repartition. The writer went for an interesting approach that’s meant to help put the reader in the main character’s shoes. The emphasis on repetition was meant to allow the readers to feel her frustration, but when almost every chapter follows the exact same formula, despite the writer’s intentions, it just very quickly gets predictable. I did enjoy the story overall, though.
