Alyssa Reade was a young and thriving restaurant owner trying to pick up the pieces after her fiance broke her heart. She keeps her mind on her work and refuses to take time out for another romance, fearing it will be another disaster.
Tall, dark and handsome rich playboy Malcolm Garrison is not ready to give up his womanizing ways. Being jilted himself, he vowed to just live his life carefree and without emotion.
The game starts as Malcolm and his friend makes a bet in Alyssa's restaurant. Unknowingly she is to become the victim, Alyssa takes heed to the scenery as the men make their plot. Oblivious to the fact she's has a lot more smarts than they realize. Alyssa wises up to their game immediately and turns the table on Malcolm with a business proposition of her own. If Alyssa and Malcolm can pretend for a year of being together, he will split half the bet with her.
