Publisher Description
Sustainable design begins with the fundamental ethical imperative that we re-use what we have and that we carefully consider the environmental impact of our design decisions. Pivotal to this agenda is the process of creative adaptation, where something old is modified to become something suitable for a new use or purpose. As citizens, we must be good stewards of existing structures and materials, ensuring that valuable resources are not squandered. This booklet documents the projects of sixty-two first-year architecture students from Penn State in the Spring 2010. The students reclaimed objects from Tyrone, PA and incorporate these pieces into new desk lamps, work lights, sconces, tables, calendars and many other things.
