Every mother on Earth was first a little girl, a teenager, a young woman. Every mother on Earth was first someone’s daughter. Cycles of birth and growth and maturity and age are repeated, and thus, families become generations. Also repeated are many of the difficult patterns and psychosocial phenomena that seem to define and bind female identity. Mothers and daughters unwittingly mirror each other and find themselves carrying forward the heavy chains of unexamined personal histories.

Unchain Me Mama brings into sharp focus the deeply personal accounts of eight women - mothers and daughters - who confronted the generational curses of their families, and found the strength and courage to break those chains. Heartbreak, loneliness, laughter, anger, personal triumph, and release are all reflected in these autobiographical stories whose greatest message speaks to the power of love and forgiveness, even in the face of devastating hurt.
