Ari Daniels didn't count on her whole world tumbling down around her in a mess of shredded promises, broken love, and unbelievable heartbreak. Alone and stricken with grief, she shouldered the blame and eventually closed her heart off, refusing to open it for another. After all, anytime she tried, guilt and regret were waiting in the wings to remind her how painful it was.
A bet and one steamy night with a stranger force Ari to confront all she's been hiding behind. She tries to move on, but he refuses to stand down, wanting what she is terrified to give—herself. This man may very well destroy her in the end, especially when it's clear he has his own demons.
What happens when two broken souls come together, finally allowing themselves to believe in the beauty of love … only to have to fight harder than ever to keep it.

Couldn’t put this book down; the rough, uninhibited love was fire can’t wait for the next on piper and wilder
I thought this book was okay. I really was a little to “wordy” for me. Thorn and Ari made a good couple, they helped get each other move on from some terrible things in their pasts. The chapters focusing on anger, regret, fear, and grief were just super confusing. You understand more by the end but I wish that aspect of the story was handled some other way. When Ari runs from the feelings Thorn evokes he never gives up on getting her back in his life. Even though he has never wanted a relationship he knows something is different about Ari from the first time they lock eyes and she feels the same way. I love all of the other books I have read by Ms. Sloan, this just wasn’t one of my favorites.
Harper’s best book to date!
Harper Sloan is one of my absolute favorite authors. I have never been disappointed in one of her books. I wasn’t able to start this book right when it released (previous commitments) but oh how I wish I could have dug in immediately. To date, this is hands down, Harper’s best work.
Both Ari and Thorn are very flawed characters, but not in any way does that make them unlovable or unlikeable. It simply makes them very human. Ari and Thorn are absolutely perfect for one another. And Thorn is about as alpha as a man can be. His one word “Babe” with it’s multitude of meanings had me chuckling
If you have never read anything by Harper Sloan, this is a perfect book to start with. Totally it’s own world with no crossover characters. If you have read Harper’s books before, this is perfect for your next read. I kid you not, this is her best book so far. I eagerly look forward to Piper and Wilder’s story. And I’m hoping one will be coming for London as well.
