When 18-year-old Major Padgett joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he decided when he deployed, he would start a detailed journal of his service. He was eager to make a difference and serve his country and put pen to paper to keep his memories close.

As the head torpedo man of his team, Major describes their work ethic as well as their ability to enjoy liberty excursions at their ports of call. His memories of action during three tours in Vietnam and his unique (and some not so unique) experiences while exploring multiple countries intertwine in this story of a young man coming of age while away from home serving his country.
