Publisher Description
From New York Times bestselling author Courtney Milan...
Smite Turner is renowned for his single-minded devotion to his duty as a magistrate. But behind his relentless focus lies not only a determination to do what is right, but the haunting secrets of his past--secrets that he is determined to hide, even if it means keeping everyone else at arm's length. Until the day an irresistible woman shows up as a witness in his courtroom...
Miranda Darling isn't in trouble...yet. But she's close enough that when Turner threatens her with imprisonment if she puts one foot wrong, she knows she should run in the other direction. And yet no matter how forbidding the man seems on the outside, she can't bring herself to leave. Instead, when he tries to push her away, she pushes right back--straight through his famous self-control, and into the heart of the passion that he has long hidden away...

A good read
Definitely atypical. Lots of interesting details and plot twists. Preferred the story about Ash. This is a great author.

Excellent book with strong characters and twisted plots. I enjoyed Smite's and Miranda's gradual love story and being triumphant in destroying the past and creating a new future. Story is unique and well worth the read....April H Jacksonville FL
Great finally to a great series
As always Ms Milan writes great love stories.
Smite was the most damaged of the turner brothers, and the one who needed to make the most amends.
The first book of the series was about Ash, and the best. You should read it if you have not. It's absolutely amazing.
Because Smite is harder and more complicated, the romance is not flowery but kind of weird. Miranda has "to read between the lines" to understand what Smite really means.
The story talks a lot about the slums in Bristol and the difficulties of getting justice for the poor. And to look out of place was to be found guilty of some crime.
