Publisher Description

In 2012 photographer Jett Loe encountered the Los Angeles District of West Adams, the original wealthy area of town, the “Beverly Hills before Beverly Hills.”  Filled with an astonishing collection of Victorian and Craftsman homes in vibrant, diverse neighborhoods West Adams proved to be a revelation.

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign Jett spent two years producing this mammoth delight of a book that documents the variety of homes and people in the area. Totaling a fully interactive 361 pages with 500 photos, 70 oral history audio clips from West Adams residents and two hours of behind-the-scenes video commentary, Untold LA is a massive treasure trove for lovers of American history, Los Angeles and architecture.

    Amazing!

This is an amazing book about a wonderful place to live-- The West Adams District of Los Angeles. It goes way beyond being just a book about architecture, because it includes so much neighborhood vibrancy. I love the way the photos continue to vary--new and old, loved and tolerated, people and buildings, tiny details and grand visions.
It's great not just as an architectural reference but as a history book and as a guide to what makes neighborhoods vital.

A new kind of architecture book

I absolutely love this new book about West Adams. The photographs are beautiful and natural. I love the audio commentaries, maps, and videos that make it all come alive. This book is clearly a labor of love and worth the time time to buy, read, watch and listen to. A great achievement.

    I call it "Home"

Untold LA is a brilliant compendium of the neighborhood I am fortunate enough to call home. Having been one of Jett's Kickstarter supporters, we have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Untold LA. That day has arrived and the result has soared beyond our expectations. The iBook is beautifully rendered with an easy flow layout, magnificent pictures and a wonderful interactive component. The audio links accompanying many of the photographs tell the story behind the image, giving the viewer insight as to what it really is like to inhabit these wonderful turn-of-the-century abodes. What a delight it is to be able to see inside so many of these wonderful homes, one often drives past the house and wonders what does the interior look like. Now we know. Not only are these great houses shown to their best advantage, but the neighborhood that they compose is also beautifully featured. This area known as Historic West Adams is home to a vibrant community of caring, loving people. It is a neighborhood that one actually gets to know their neighbors.
Untold LA captures that special spirit of small-town USA that thrives in the middle of a sometimes daunting metropolis.

Kudos to Jett for recognizing that special magic that has captivated so many for so long. Now on the pages of this iBook it is there for the world to discover as the lucky few, myself counted in those numbers, have the privilege of calling West Adams, home.
