What drew her to Malta were the ancient temples, the oldest free-standing buildings in the world, the Baroque splendour of Valletta, and Malta's position in the centre of the Mediterranean, with Africa on one side and Europe on the other - a place of infinite possibilities. She worked in heritage restoration until the stone dust ran in her veins and she could swear in Maltese.
