Vacation Rental & Other Tales of Horror & Intrigue

The first short story we will experience was written in 1999, The Restless Dead. The tale begins as a reoccurring dream plagues a young journalist named Jarred. In his nocturnal visions, he visits a ghastly and haunting place, an abandoned plantation home, swallowed and ravished by the swamps of Louisiana. As the dreams become more frequent, his wife Collette convinces the journalist to turn his dream into a fictional prose. So Jarred decides to investigate the meager clues that he gathered from his dreams and finds that such a place actually existed. He decides to travel to New Orleans, to find the swamp that covets the ancient and abandoned estate – in order to decipher its history. Follow Jared as he discovers the horrors born from his lineage, as the Voodoo-filled nights of New Orleans engulf him in a vortex of terror & madness.

The second short story, Angel of Death, written in 2009, is one of many bilingual stories I have written (English/Spanish). The tale begins among the festive nights of Miami, as the story introduces an attractive couple named Manny and Lupita. Manny was a Cuban drug dealer, and his Mexican girlfriend, Lupita, was a popular stripper and socialite of the Miami club scene. After a drug deal goes terribly wrong, the couple is forced to flee Miami and they retreat towards Mexico in search of Lupita’s family ranch. But upon crossing the border, they also unknowingly cross a Mexican Death cult and summon a horror much worse than the troubles they faced in Miami. Against impossible odds, they traverse a mysterious country, forsaking sanity and the blissful life they had left behind.

The third and final story, Vacation Rental, written in 2010, is a twisting and frightful tale of a place wrought in a nightmare. The story begins as a young couple, The Montenegros, search for a mountain cabin they rented online, tucked away in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. Meanwhile, a psychic, private detective from Connecticut, Jake Dandy, searches for an elderly couple that went missing six months earlier in the same area. Jake’s visions and dreams soon lead him on a course that crosses the Montenegros and a haunted cabin that lures unsuspecting couples and families to a fate more horrible than anything Jake could imagine. Against his keen and psychic intuition, the investigator is thrust into the very pit of hell on Earth.
