EXCITEMENT & DANGER
Xander Herzog is back as Everett is preparing to take a trip to Europe, and face the Elder Counsel. He’s seeking approval to have Xander, who happens to be Everett’s assistant, turned to vampire. The Council of Elders, the oldest members of each bloodline, has turned Everetts request down. Of course, there’s every possibility that bureaucracy is behind their decision. Everett is taking a chance and attending a once in a decade, vampire council meeting, in-person, and plead his case with vampires from all over the world.
For Xander, it gives him some time with Avery and Jack to have a vacation. This will be Xander’s first camping trip and roughing it. Avery and Jack especially like the idea of camping as they can be themselves. So far its been fun, until the unthinkable happens. They are under siege by six men with guns. They realize these men are more than dangerous. Its not easy for Xander to witness what’s happening and its even worse for Jack and Avery as they can’t shift. Under unspeakable torture the Leader and a Russian accented man, demand to know where Everett is keeping the grimoire and the amulet that is now in pieces. Even though Xander was willing to give up the information it ends in a tragedy.
Jack and Avery are still held captive and their lives hang in the balance while their hearts are breaking for Xander. Unbeknownst to them, they are in for a shock, as the world of the supernatural, mages, vampires and all kinds of species come face to face.
All will hang in the balance until Jack can hide the grimoire, once again, and until Everettes return.
Roan Rosser, out did himself with “Vampire’s Grimoire” the fourth book in the “Changing Bodies” series. This was not only fun and chaotic but it’s filled with fast paced action and suspense, mystery, great banter and gore. This story really belongs to Xander. He’s full of hyper fun, drama and still is pretty smart, all rolled into one.
He can certainly bring the chaos, too. Along with him is the oddest bunch of fun shifters are: Jack Smith-Boesch the golden jackal, Avery Novak the largest arctic wolf, Gigi Hudson the skunk, Devon the hippo, and Vanessa the aardwolf and more.
I still don’t know who is trust worthy between: Killian, Precious, and Dave of the PCA (Paranormal Creature Alliance) with their rules; and the mean and devious, Livia’s Vampire Coven: Charlie, Skye, Erasmo, and Jordan. Marlen Alekseev, evil mages, a necromancer, a whole lot of thugs and Tawaret and Lady Ann have still left their mark.
Now, with Livia still seeking revenge, I have to admit I was taken by surprise with the ending and I’m curious to find out what Roan Rosser has up their sleeve for the next book.
For me “Vampire’s Grimoire” was fantastic and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes a roller coaster ride of a paranormal tale. The entire “Changing Bodies” series is entertaining and it all started with the first book “Ritual of the Ancients”, that tells how all this chaos began and brought: Everett, Jack, Xander and Avery together.
