But Vane loved his own voice more than the Song — and in his pride, he dropped what he was meant to sow. What was dropped did not shatter. It unmade. This is the story of the long dawn that followed: one faithful singer holding a single true note through all the dark years, a keeper who answered fear with walls, a sower who learned that seed kept is seed dead, and a waiting people who coined the oldest word they own — waits-for-morning — for the darkness before dawn.
