The book "Vegetable Breeding-Theory and Practice" covers genetics and breeding of important vegetable crops grown in India with emphasis on the plant breeding work conducted at various SAUs and ICAR institutes. Book follows the syllabi prescribed by ICAR for M.Sc and PhD programmes in Vegetable science and will be an excellent ready reference for the teachers and students pursuing course on vegetable breeding. Introduction chapter details the general breeding methods, origin of vegetable crops, specific methods used for self pollinated, cross pollinated and asexually propagated vegetable crops and biometrics. Chapters pertaining on crops details the origin, taxonomy, distribution, floral biology, genetics of important traits with published gene list, breeding objective, breeding methods, advancement in biotechnology and breeding achievement highlighted in the form of public sector released varieties. Recent references provided at the end of each chapter will be helpful for gathering further information.
