In 1966 Veres Győző performed the greatest feat in the history of the Weightlifing sport. He lifted a world record total which was higher than the world recored total in the weight division above his. This had never been done before.


Tragically, the record was not officially awarded because corrupt officials from his own country colluded with International judges to have a critical lift failed. In the clear light of day they robbed this genius of the weightlifting world, whose groundbreaking training methods pushed the small nation of Hungary to the forefront of the weightlifting world.
