Vibrational Spectra of Benzene Derivatives

In organic chemistry a significant amount of knowledge has been obtained since the middle of the last century about the structure of molecules by the use of methods based on chemical properties. The study of the spectra of molecules has led to important results in physicochemical investigations of molecular structure by providing information not only about the form and dimensions of the molecules, but —at least in the simpler cases —also about the magnitude of the forces acting among the atoms.
