Welcome back to Virgin River with the book that inspired the hit Netflix series…
Wanted: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against a backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included.
When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad, she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving—the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she's made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.
But a tiny baby abandoned on a front porch changes her plans…and former marine Jack Sheridan cements them into place.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Before inspiring a streaming show, Robyn Carr’s Virgin River books made us fall in love with a dreamy and made-up California town known for its clean forest air and salt-of-the-earth characters. The first book in the series revolves around nurse-midwife Melinda Monroe, who moves to the 600-person hamlet from the big city. At first she’s out of her element, but she quickly finds herself drawn to the tight-knit community—and especially to sexy former marine Jack Sheridan. We love Carr’s focus on how Mel rises up to the challenge of providing care in a place with few resources. She never idealizes small-town living, portraying the realities of poverty and drug use. That makes for a sweet romance that never, ever feels twee.
Customer Reviews
I REALLY liked this book a lot
I’ve read other books by this author & I’ve liked them all. Though I have not seen the tv series based on this series of books, I wish I had been able to. Very good story line. Characters are well drawn & feel like people you’d like to know. I dropped 1 star because of several pretty explicit sexual encounters that could have left more to the imagination.
Surprised
What I admire about this book is Mel went from modern medicine to small town medical medicine in a year’s time. Mel has lost her husband and baby which prepared her for a new love in Virgin River. Mel transformed her life of riches to country style living with Mother Nature. Mel realized that Virgin River has neighbors that loved and respected each other and when things got tough everyone stepped in to do their part. This kind of togetherness was a shock to Melinda who’s a city woman. Although this story takes place in California Mel still was astonished that people cared enough to save their beloved town.
Way better than the Netflix series
Definitely a must read! Love the original storyline so much more than the Tv show!!
