"One of the finest and most delightful writers in romance." –Mary Jo Putney
A charming, traditional Regency romance from New York Times bestselling author, Loretta Chase!
“What's gotten into you, dashing about to make a man's poor, tired head spin?... Oh, all right. I'll chase you if you like." He started to get up, changed his mind, and slumped back against the pillow. "Only it's such a bother."
Catherine Pelliston has just escaped a forced marriage to an obnoxious friend of her unreliable father; and now she's truly in the soup; kidnapped and helpless in a London brothel! And though she's been rescued by the very inebriated Max Demowery, Viscount Rand, she may be in even greater danger of falling in love with the shockingly outrageous, scandalously improper Viscount Vagabond!
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In escape from the ignominy of an arranged marriage with an elderly, fortune-hunting contemporary of her father, Catherine Pelliston takes off for London where there is expectation of employment as a schoolmistress. Despite her purposely prim appearance she is abducted, drugged and imprisoned in a bawdy house. There the handsome Lord Rand, a soldier returning from the Continental war, and engaging in a last carousing before submitting to the protocols of the London season, is intrigued by this unlikely denizen of a brothel. So begins another fast-paced Regency from the author of Isabella and The English Witch. Against the familiar accoutrements of the ton's social scene, the two central characters, alike in stubbornness, misconceptions and unconventional manners, are attractively engaged in clearing the hurdles to their unsurprising union.

Ella
I thoroughly loved this book! The author was able to portray each character by putting me inside the person of each one. I felt i knew each one. The lover of historical romance will not want to put this book down. There's humor, mystery, romance and a happy ending. All things I enjoy in a book. I highly recommend it.
Kept reading - but not a to die for read
The book starts out exciting and cools down from there. The main female character is constantly going to coming out parties and meets up with Max often. Typical historical canned plot of historical romance …you know girl meets guy neither can stand each other then they realize they are in love. Found they constant party going, got old and had dry spots at time. Nevertheless, the story kept my attention until the end. Ending was lack luster and cheesy. This is a very “clean” book. I have read far better historical romance novels - I’d try more of her later writings as they are better.
Potential to be good
The book had potential to be a good story but it fell a but flat. Was excited to read it from the preview given but it took a long time to get to the point and honestly there was no romance or love between the two until the very end if that. When I read a romance, I wand to be able to read about romance! Experience it through the characters eyes, feel what they are. But here is was very dry. The main characters were almost like strangers the majority of the book. It was also very wordy, maybe to add length to it? But all in all it was okay to curb the extreme boredom and could have been a good book. However, I don't think I'll be reading any more from this author.
