Introduction In October of 2010, the Institute of Medicine, working in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, released a report entitled The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. Recommendations in the report advocate for major changes in the education and practice of nursing in the United States. This independent study summarizes key points of the report and includes evidence from related sources that supports the need for change in nursing. Current and proposed action steps to implement the recommendations are included.
