Publisher Description

WHERE LIES THE DREAM?
A realistic story about dreams and fantasies surrounding the idea of moving abroad. A truthful portrayal of the dreams and hopes of living abroad in view to attaining a better life, a life different and more prosperous than than the one lived in the home country. Jende, the protagonist of the noble story, a freshman immigrant dissatisfied with his life in Limbe, Cameroon in Sub-Sahara Africa, moves to New York, USA, hoping to provide ease, comfort and a better future for his family. Ignorant about how the institutions and immigration policies will impact on his dream, Jende together with his supportive, energetic and optimistic wife, Neni, struggle to pursue, catch and hold the American dream. As deterritorialization from the coastal soil of Limbe failed to yield a complete integration and reterritorialization in New York, disappointed Jende decides to return to his country of origin, thereby inadvertently fulfilling the meaning of the name of his daughter, Timba, which means “ Return” . A return to the once abhorrent land, Limbe with a mixture of refreshments and unrealized dream, tainted with a ray of hope yet to be attained in his native land.
This book throws opens a new horizon of immigrant stories told around the world, as it taps into the realities of our days, bringing to light the grim truth of the concept of ending up abroad, specifically the United States of America in view to holding the torch of the evasive Grail called the American dream. The book also opens a rare perspective of the courageous journey back to the point of departure, the country of origin. An unappreciated and less revered land wins the admiration of those who departed from it, providing once again hope and stability to life.
