Perfect Book to Inspire Writers
Writers appreciate other writers delving into themselves to provide inspiration, information and intelligent direction. Waking the Lion is a master collection of well-written essays and articles designed not to dumb-down the literary vocation.
The reader is fortunate in that Rossi has worked in poetry, short fiction, nonfiction and drama and has crafted essays on each field. His experiences and expositions make this a must for anyone interested in creative writing. I especially enjoy how he kept this book literary instead of composing another dreary how-to tome which usually find a home in the nearest discount department store.
There are myriad highlights in this volume stretching thirty years. The finest that stand out are “Modern Forces and the Meaningful Metaphor” and “The Creative Benefits of Righteous Anger.”
