Warmth in the Night

After the events of Afterglow, Lin Lan and Cheng Ye finally share an address—but living together proves more complicated than choosing each other. Work, distance, adult children, aging responsibilities, and the quiet habits of daily life begin testing the boundaries they once fought so hard to protect.
When an old authorization failure resurfaces in an archive project and Cheng Ye discovers private materials sealed inside a historic boarding house, both are forced to confront a familiar question in a new form: does preservation create a right to access, and does love create a right to know?
Set against harbors, storm tides, old walls, and a cassette that remains deliberately unheard, Warmth in the Night: Volume Two — Tides is a literary novel about adult intimacy after the dramatic choices are over. It asks whether love can survive not through possession or permanence, but through the harder work of maintenance, consent, distance, and choosing one another again.
