The supreme ruler of a vast population of thieves living in the sewers beneath a large city suspects that a plot against him is being hatched by the most trusted and noble members of the community. Trying to forestall events, he devises a cunning plan to prevent the plot, but at the very last moment his plan is ruined by force majeure.
